About Freeman Wauchope
FREEMAN WAUCHOPE HISTORY
Freeman Wauchope is a frame and truss fabricator and timber merchant located in Adelaide’s Camden Park. It is a longstanding 4th generation family company established in 1925, evolving out of a building company called Fox Ey and Thomas which was involved in the development of Westbourne Park and Colonel Light Gardens.
The new venture was called Freemans Limited after one of the original shareholders (Harry Freeman) and registered at 196 Flinders Street Adelaide. The name was changed to Freeman Wauchope in 1934 with the appointment of a joint manager called Reg Wauchope.
The company acquired a property in Sturt Street Adelaide where it operated under the chairmanship of B.E.G Thomas until moving to their current address in 1962 under the management of his son Raymond Thomas, the father of current managing director David Thomas.
Freeman Wauchope have over 50 years experience in manufacturing timber roof trusses and are one of the original timber truss fabricators in South Australia. However, while there have been many changes and trends over the years, South Australia and Western Australia by comparison had initially resisted the trend of prefabrication that the eastern states had experienced.
Freeman Wauchope employ around 30 staff under the guidance of Operation Manager and multi hat wearer Travis Smith.
The company retains its family flavour with Davids wife Viv and daughter Abby (4th generation) to guide the company beyond the 100 year mark and into the future.
Freeman Wauchope is a long established family business that takes pride in service and dependability and is well placed for future challenges and opportunities.
